EGYPT Premier League
The Egyptian Premier League, established in 1948, is the top professional football division in Egypt and is one of Africa’s premier football competitions.
Al Ahly and Zamalek are the most successful clubs, with Al Ahly being the dominant force, winning the league title a record number of times. The league operates on a promotion and relegation system with the Egyptian Second Division. The season typically runs from August to May.
In addition to the domestic title, top teams in the Egyptian Premier League qualify for continental competitions, such as the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup. The league is known for its passionate fan base, historic rivalries, especially the Cairo Derby between Al Ahly and Zamalek, and its role as a talent pool for players who often move to European or Middle Eastern clubs.
