The Argentina Liga Profesional de Fútbol, also known as the Primera División, is the top professional football league in Argentina. It is organized by the Argentine Football Association (AFA) and features some of the most popular and successful clubs in South America.
The league was founded in 1891 and is one of the oldest professional football leagues in the world. It is composed of 28 teams, who play each other for a total of 27 rounds. The team with the most points at the end of the season is crowned the champion. If two or more teams are tied on points, the title is decided by goal difference. The bottom four teams are relegated to the second division, while the top four teams qualify for the Copa Libertadores, South America's premier club competition.
The most successful club is River Plate. Some of the most successful clubs include Boca Juniors, San Lorenzo, Racing, Indepediente who have all won multiple titles.
The league is known for its passionate fans and intense rivalries, particularly the Superclásico between Boca Juniors and River Plate.
The Argentina Liga Profesional is considered one of the strongest football leagues in South America and has produced many world-class players, including Diego Maradona and Gabriel Batistuta.
