FRANCE Ligue 1
Ligue 1 is the top professional football league in France. It was founded in 1932 and is organized by the Fédération Française de Football (FFF). From 2023-2024 season the league consists of 18 teams and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with Ligue 2, the second division of French football.
The Ligue 1 season runs from August to May, with each team playing 34 matches (17 home and 17 away).
The team with the most points at the end of the season is crowned the champion.
The most successful clubs in Ligue 1 history are Paris Saint-Germain, AS Saint-Étienne, Olympique de Marseille, FC Nantes, AS Monaco, Olympique Lyonnais,Stade de Reims and Girondins de Bordeaux.
Olympique de Marseille, who hold the record for most seasons in Ligue1, is the only French club to win the UEFA Champions League, in 1993.
Olympique Lyonnais is the club that has won the most consecutive titles (from 2002 to 2008).
FC Nantes is the team with the longest consecutive unbeaten streak (32 matches), and the longest consecutive time without losing at home, with a run of 92 matches from May 1976 to April 1981.
AS Saint-Étienne was the first club with ten titles.
