FRANCE Ligue 2
Ligue 2 is the second division of professional football in France. It was founded in 1933 and is organized by the Fédération Française de Football (FFF). It is contested by 20 clubs, with the champion and runner-up earning promotion to Ligue 1 and the bottom two clubs being relegated to the Championnat National, the third division of French football.
The season runs from August to May, with each club playing 38 matches.
The most successful teams in the history of Ligue 2 are Le Havre and Nancy, who have won the league five times.
The league is known for producing talented young players who go on to have successful careers in Ligue 1 and other top European leagues, include Olivier Giroud, Tony Vairelles, Xavier Gravelaine, and Jérôme Rothen.
