ISRAEL Premier League
The Israeli Premier League, also known as the Ligat ha'Al, is the top professional soccer league in Israel. It was founded in 1999. The league is run by the Israel Football Association.
The Israeli Premier League season typically runs from August to May.
The teams first play a round-robin for a total of 26 matches.
Following this, the top six teams play in a championship playoff, where they meet each other twice. The first place team qualifies to participate in the qualifying round of UEFA Champions League. The runners-up and the third-placed teams qualify for the qualifying round of the UEFA Europa Conference League.
The bottom two teams are relegated to the second-tier Liga Leumit, while the team that finishes in 13th place enters a playoff with the team that finishes second in the Liga Leumit to determine which team will play in the Israeli Premier League the following season.
The most successful team in Israeli Premier League history is Maccabi Tel Aviv.
